How much does it cost to rent an RV for a week trip? What’s the answer!? It’s not that simple.

But, generally, it costs $1,200 – $2200 to rent an RV for a week. Give or take a few hundred bucks depending on the factors we will discuss in this post such as…

What type of Recreational Vehicle are we talking about? A Pop-up, Teardrop, Travel Trailer (TT), Class A, Class B, or Class C. You also have to think about models, years, age, size, etc.

>> Choose your RV, Play with your departure time, return time, and destination on Outdoorsy Here.

How Much Does it Cost to Rent an RV for a Week?

You can plan on spending the average of $1,200 to $2,200 as mentioned above, but if you have a better understanding of what type of RV you want you can make a better assumption.

Still, you may pay less money.

These numbers represent specific examples of weekly rental prices by model, year, beds, and size:

Model

Type

Year

Sleeps

Price

Starcraft 816

Pop-Up

2006

6

$378

Riverside RV White Water 509

Teardrop

2016

4

$483

Forest River Rockwood 2109S

Travel Trailer

2021

4

$693

Coachmen RV Leprechaun 220QB

Class C

2015

6

$1,050

Winnebago Travato 59K

Class B

2020

4

$1,435

Tiffin Motorhomes Allegro 34PA

Class A

2020

6

$2,233

Related: How Much to Rent an RV for 2 Weeks?

What Affects The Price of An RV Rental?

These are the factors your need to take into consideration when calculating “how much money does it cost to rent an RV for a week?”

The Model

A huge factor, if not the main factor, is the RV type; RV models drastically differ in RV rental cost per week per night. You can rent a Teardrop for $420 a week or you can rent a Class A RV for 2,480 a week.

Pop-Up Camper

$350 to $500

Teardrop

$400 to $600

Travel Trailer

$500 to $1,000

Class C RV

$900 to $1,400

Class B RV

$1,200 to $1,600

Class A RV

$1,600 to $2,200

Average RV nightly rents by model

You need to start here, what type of RV do you want to rent? How many people do you need to accommodate?

This brings us to our next factor. Size.

Size Of RV

You may find yourself comparing two motorhomes in the same class, size will play a major factor in the listing price.

Most likely, a 30 foot RV will cost more than a 20 foot RV (you may rent a 30 footer for cheaper if its an older model or there’s significant wear-and-tear)

Also related to size is capacity; sleeping capacity. You have to know how much sleeping capacity you need and how much your prospective rig has to offer.

RVs with a lower sleeping capacity often rent for less. So, the fewer people, the cheaper.

RV Insurance

Some owners will charge you a small fee to add you to their insurance. In other cases, you will be charged anywhere from $293.42 to 493.53.

When you use a peer-to-peer RV rental service like Outdoorsy you are automatically enrolled with up to 1 million dollars in insurance protection.

From there you have the option to add other policies.

Whichever RV rental company you choose, make sure to read the fine print. And, ask a representative or the owner specific questions about insurance.

If you plan on renting a luxury RV, you want to look into purchasing Trip Insurance which can be an additional 7% of your total rental costs.

For estimation purposes, we suggest you take a nice round number like $300, and add it as your insurance cost. We are just trying to find a roundabout number so you have a better idea of how much will an RV rental cost you for a week.

Mileage Offered

There are some rental agreements that have a pay-per-mile model (more on that later).

You won’t need to worry about this in most cases, many RV rentals have unlimited mileage.

But, if you happen to stumble upon an owner or company that rent per mile, you’ll likely be charged $0.25 to $0.75 per mile you go over.

So, you need to know how far you’re traveling. Just have that number ready so you can quickly do the math if you run into a pay-per-mile agreement.

RV Generator

Here is another factor that varies and is left to the discretion of the owner.

You may come across people who give you a generator use allowance, like 4 hours per day, then charge you $4.00 for every hour you go over.

This one is hard to predict because things happen, so just be mindful if you sign a rental agreement with these stipulations.

Related: Best RV Generator Reviews

Amenities Included

Basically, the nicer, the more comfortable your RV, the more expensive.

Amenities include a full kitchen, bathroom, and several beds. This can also include RV Wifi Boosters, bike racks, countertop ice makers, canoe racks, propane, coffee makers, grills, Wireless RV Backup Cameras, camper air conditioners, etc.

Here is another thing you need to simply keep in mind when shopping around.

Propane

Propane can come with your RV rental cost per week, many owners use them to power their fridge when it’s not plugged into an electrical source.

Also, you may have to buy a canister or two. Maybe even refill a small propane bottle.

You may be traveling in the winter so you use propane as a heating source, or, want to go camping and need a small propane bottle

Taxes

Yes, you will be taxed. Boo!

How much you pay in tax is solely based on what state you are renting in, not where you currently live.

If you live in Maryland, but rent an RV in California, you’ll pay California sales taxes.

Why Rent a Camper or RV for Your Vacation?

To have an adventure like none other, test an RV model before buying one and, RV travel can be much more cost-effective than hopping from hotel to hotel.

Other Benefits of Renting An RV for Your Vacations Are:

How much does it cost to rent an RV for a week will depend on all the factors mentioned in this post. Be mindful of all of them, but try not to be overwhelmed with checking every box.

As a newbie you won’t have the answers for everything, like many things in life, you have to experience it before you can know.

All you need to really know is you aren’t renting a hotel room, you want to drive or stay at an RV Park for a week and have some fun.

If those basic things aren’t appealing to you, then you know that renting an RV for a week isn’t ideal for your trip or vacation.

Its cost $4,500 to $7,500 to rent an RV for 3 months. Although daily rentals can cost up to $100 per night, many RV owners and rental companies give deep discounts for long-term rentals.

So, expect to pay less than $100 a night for those 90 days, unless it’s a luxury RV. Luxury RV rental prices have skyrocketed but that’s nothing new.

National Parks, RV Parks, and Campsites fees are in the $25 to $100 per night range. Join one of many camping discount clubs to cut costs or avoid fees by boondocking.

RV Rental Insurance

Some RV owners charge a small fee to add you to their insurance. In other cases, you will be charged anywhere from $293.42 to 493.53.

When you use a peer-to-peer RV rental service like Outdoorsy you are automatically enrolled with up to 1 million dollars in insurance protection.

From there you have the option to add other policies.

If you plan on renting a luxury RV, you want to look into purchasing Trip Insurance which can be an additional 7% of your total rental costs.

For estimation purposes, we suggest you take a nice round number like $300 and add it as your insurance cost. We are just trying to find a roundabout number so you have a better idea of how much will an RV rental cost you for 3 months.

Whichever RV rental company you choose, make sure to read the fine print. And, ask a representative or the owner specific questions about insurance.

Installation/Delivery Charges

When peer-to-peer RV renting, some owners offer to set up the RV at the campground you plan to occupy. Others require that they set up at the campground you’d be occupying.

This fee averaged $150 to $200.

RV Fuel Costs

Filling up a Rig can be a doozy, it’s nothing like filling up a car. Class A RVs can hold up to 150 gallons, other Class A RVs can average 100 gallons of fuel.

You may deal with a rental company or owner who has mileage restrictions and charge extra fees from $.25 to $.75 per mile over.

Also, there is often an additional fee for RVs returned without a full tank. Gasless return will cost you the amount to fill’er up and the additional $20 to $50.

Related: Is RVing Expensive?

RV Rental Amenities

Basically, the more comfortable your RV, the more expensive your 3 month trip will be.

Amenities can include a full kitchen, bathroom, and several beds. This can also include Kayaks, French Press, bike racks, canoe racks, propane, grills, RV air conditioners, backup cameras, etc.

RV Rental Cleaning Fees

Just like Airbnb, RV owners charge a cleaning fee of $50 to $100 (you may see it written as “Prep Fee”). Return the RV in good shape for the next renter and these fees shouldn’t be an issue.

Renting Taxes

You’ll pay taxes based on the state you are renting the RV in. So, when you rent an RV online from your house in Ohio, but the RV rental is in Detroit, you’ll pay Detroit sales taxes.

In a previous post, we’ve hashed out how much it costs to rent an RV for a week trip, here we dive into “How Much Does it Cost to Rent an RV for 2 Weeks” and the answer is pretty similar.

Let’s start by saying, it’s not that simple, getting to and through the open road will cost more than 2 weeks of rent.

In the rest of the post, we will cover the weekly rental costs, other fees & prices to consider while renting an RV, and popular rental companies you should work with, or at least look into.

>> Choose your RV, Play with your departure time, return time, and destination on Outdoorsy Here.

How Much Does it Cost to Rent an RV for 2 Weeks?

RV rentals are priced per night, and bigger, newer RV’s will be more expensive. On average, a rental will cost $2,400- $4,000 for 2 weeks.

Of course, there are other factors we need to consider in our budget, like the size of the RV, model, campgrounds, RV parks, gas, cleaning fees, etc. More on those below.

What Affects the Price of an RV Rental?

The size and type of RV

The age of the vehicle

The time of the year

One Way vs Round Trip

Other Fees & Prices to Consider While Renting an RV:

Look at the Type of RV

Recreational Vehicles are many types of motorhomes and trailers, some towable and some drivable. After you choose which type of RV you need/want, then you choose which size you need and what model you want.

Size and model are huge factors in pricing. See chart above

We suggest you pick an older model. Older models can provide the same amount of comfort and space as a newer RV, minus the cost.

The bigger and newer the RV is, the more expensive the RV rental will be. The newer models are going to be over $100 more per night than the older models.

As well as the more gas you’ll have to pay.

RV Campground Rates

Campground fees can range from $25 to $100 per night, so let’s say $50 on average. You can find RV Park with similar rates.

To save some money, you can join an RV club like Passport America and book a campsite early or hit the road boondocking or dry camping (It’s free)

Campground fees can total to $700 if you stay in one place for 2 weeks without any club membership discounts.

RV Rental Insurance

If you rent with Outdoorsy you’ll automatically get up to 1 million dollars in insurance protection.

Trip Insurance or Damage Protection is also a good idea since your renting an RV for 2 weeks and, possibly, driving to different locations. When renting a stationary RV in an RV park or campground you may want to skip the Trip Insurance.

If you are planning on renting a luxury RV, you want to look into purchasing Trip Insurance which can be an additional 7% of your total rental costs.

Some owners will add you to their insurance for a small fee. In other cases, you will be charged anywhere from $293.42 to $493.53.

You also have the option to add other policies.

Whichever RV rental company you choose, make sure to read the fine print. And, ask a representative or the owner specific questions about insurance.

Mileage

Do you pay for miles when you rent an RV? You don’t pay for miles with all RV rentals.

You won’t need to worry about this in most cases, many RV rentals have unlimited mileage.

But, if you happen to stumble upon an owner or company that rents per mile, you’ll likely be charged $0.25 to $0.75 per mile you go over.

Can you rent an RV with unlimited miles? Yes, you just have to look for the deal.

Generator

This only applies to RV renters who plan on camping out in the boondocks without any type of electrical power or hookups.

You will be using the power hookups at campsites whenever possible. But in certain situations or when you are on the road, you will be forced to use the generator. Most often in summer, it is used to run the A/C.

You can come across an owner who charges a flat rate for unlimited generator usage.

RV rental companies charge by the hour for the use of the generator. Typically, the rates fall around the $3.50 mark. Some operators may charge less.

Now, generator usage is something we cannot predict or plan for in advance. Conservative estimates would put it around 3 hours per day, especially in hot southern weather. This would come to around $140 for a 2 week-long trip.

Installation/Delivery Charges

When peer-to-peer RV renting, some owners offer to set up the RV at the campsite you’re occupying. Others require that they setup at the campsite you’d be occupying.

This fee averaging $150 to $200.

Amenities

Some RV’s have crazy amenities, like multiple TVs and a huge dining area, but oftentimes that’s not what you need.

Write a checklist of everything that is important to you, like a bathroom and the number of beds there are available.

Keeping your requirements simple can help you find the best deals out there.

If you are planning on going for a long trip in a rental, here are some of the more necessary things to look for:

Toilets

Showers

Refrigerator

Ice Maker

Microwave

Dehumidifier

Air-Conditioning/Heating

Cleaning Fees

Like AirBnB, if you decide to rent an RV for 2 weeks via a peer-to-peer RV rental platform, they often charge a cleaning fee. To avoid the extra cleaning fee, return the RV in good shape for the next renter (still, discuss the cleaning fees with the owner so expectations are clear.)

The cleaning fees range from $50 to $100

Booking Expenses

Booking the RV months before the peak season, you might be able to get lower rates. The system works similarly to airline tickets.

If you try and book one day in advance in peak season, you will be charged higher rates (if you even find an RV available).

Booking charges tend to be around $200 – $300.

Most companies ask for a refundable security deposit, charged based on the class of the RV. A baseline figure would be $500.

Taxes

Who doesn’t love taxes? State Tax is usually factored into the quoted rental price of the RV.

Taxes you pay are based on what state you are renting from, not where your permanently reside. If you live in Kansas, but rent an RV in California, you’ll pay Californian taxes.

Groceries

Committed to cooking your meals in the RV? You will be saving money with the right kind of planning. You can expect a weekly expense between $350-$500, depending on the number of people traveling.

Why Are RVs So Expensive to Rent?

RVs are expensive to purchase, own, and operate, so in turn, they can be expensive to rent. Rigs come with a lot of expenses, a Class A is literally a mobile home with insurance, maintenance, and storage fees attached.

Luckily, you can rent from owners ahead of time to get a cheaper deal without sacrificing comfort.

Last Thoughts Before You Go

So, how much does it cost to rent an RV for 2 weeks? around $4,000 is how much you will spend on a 2-week trip.

This is just a rough estimate of how much it would cost. You can shave at least a thousand bucks by opting for a smaller RV, booking the RV and campsites early and off-peak, becoming an RV Club member, and planning your trip ahead of time (truck stops included).

But this figure should give you a good idea of the costs involved in an RV rental trip.

You may get deals with certain companies or owners because of the fact that you are renting an RV for 2 weeks. The longer the rental agreement, the better the deal, and the less expensive the trip.

Have fun and Be safe.

Here we will go over the potential fees and expenses you’ll need to factor into your budget like campsite fees, gas, and food on top of the initial rental fee, plus any traveler’s insurance to cover potential COVID expenses.

How Much Does it Cost to Rent an RV Cross Country?

It costs between $2,500 to $3,500 to rent an RV Cross Country, that’s if we are talking about a cross country RV rental one way, double the cost if we are talking about a round trip. Some RV rental companies like Cruise America require a $300 reservation down payment and a one way drop free.

This estimate will differ based on your plans to get back home and what you require along the way. That’s what we dive into for the rest of this post.

How can you stay comfortable on such a long road trip? Traveling in an RV can give you the freedom of the open road while keeping the comforts of home with you on your journey.

So, what will you need to be comfortable in the RV? Beds, French Press, Portable AC, campsites, etc. you’ll need to cover the cost of all your food and any cleaning supplies you need to keep the interior and exterior in tip-top shape.

Other Fees & Prices to Consider

Rentals by Type (Average Rental Chart)

Luxury RV rental prices are different from standard RV rental prices.

Class A RV

$175 to $350 per night

Class B RV

$100 to $225 per night

Class C RV

$125 to $250 per night

Fifth Wheel Camper

$150 to $250 per night

Travel Trailer

$75 to $150 per night

Pop Up Camper

$75 to $100 per night

Campervan

$100 to $200 per night

Toy Hauler

$99 to $180 per night

Truck Camper

$100 to $250 per night

Types Of RVAverage Rental Prices

Finding Places to Camp

And, of course, this comes with a cost. Campsite fees are in the $25 to $100 per night range. You can find RV Park at a similar rate.

To save some money, you can join an RV club to cut costs or go the free route and hit the road boondocking.

Amenities included

Basically, the more comfortable your RV, the more expensive your cross-country trip will be.

Amenities can include a full kitchen, bathroom, and several beds. This can also include Kayaks, coffee makers, bike racks, canoe racks, propane, grills, RV air conditioners, backup cameras, etc.

Gas & Mileage Offered

Filling up an RV can put a dent in your budget, it’s not like filling up a Sedan. Class A motorhomes can hold up to 150 gallons, other Class A motorhomes can average 100 gallons of fuel.

You may deal with a Recreational Vechile rental company or owner who implements mileage restrictions and charge an extra $.25 to $.75 per mile.

There is often an additional fee for RVs returned without a full tank. Gasless return will cost you the amount to filler up and the additional $20-$50.

Assurance

These prices vary as well, but if you rent with Outdoorsy you’ll automatically get up to 1 million dollars in insurance protection.

You should also consider Trip Insurance or Damage Protection since your renting to drive cross country. The longer you drive the RV the more opportunity for mistakes to be made.

Some owners will charge you a small fee to add you to their insurance. In other cases, you will be charged anywhere from $293.42 to $493.53.

Taxes

Yes, taxes. It’s never a fun topic.

How much taxes you pay are mainly based on what state you are renting from, not your permanent residence.

If you live in Oklahoma, but rent an RV in Ohio, you’ll pay Ohio sales taxes.

Best RV Rental for Cross Country Trips

What type of RV is best for a cross-country road trip? This is mostly based on preference but we can say for certain that small RVs aren’t ideal, especially when traveling with families or large groups. No need to be cramped.

Motorized RVs or drivable RVs (as opposed to towable RVs), like class A, class B, and class C motorhomes, are the best RVs to rent for long-term rentals.

The most popular RVs for long-term rentals or cross-country road trips are Class A RVs. They are built on a bus chassis, their size allows them to include a bunch of amenities and comforts such as kitchen area, bathroom, dining area, sleeping quarters, and plenty of storage space.

Second in line are Class B RVs which are smaller and are better on fuel than Class A models but still allow a couple of people to be comfy while traveling across America.

Finally, there is Class C RVs which are the smallest of the drivable RV models, but still a good option as an RV rental for a cross country trip. You still get some of the amenities you can get with a Class A and better gas mileage.

Although these three are the most popular and best RV cross country rental options, it is not uncommon to rent a towable RV if you are traveling alone or as a couple. Towable cross-country rentals are the best option when relocating.

Related: How Much Does it Cost to Rent an RV for 2 Weeks

Note: What is a Towable RV? Towable RVs are Travel Trailers, Fifth Wheelers, Tear Drop Trailers and Pop-Up Campers. They are easily towed behind a sedan, truck, or SUV.

One Way RV Rental Cross Country

Can RVs be rented one way? Yes, RVs can be rented one way, which means you pick up the RV in one city and drop it off in another city. Most companies offer One Way RV Rental Unlimited Miles

So, either you’re relocating to a new city or you simply have driven down the coast and seen all the sights, landmarks, and parks you can see, you can definitely rent an RV cross country one way and fly home.

What is the Cheapest Way to Rent an RV One Way?

The cheapest way to rent an RV cross country is to use companies that are willing to pay you to transport their vehicles, it’s called a Relocation Rental.

Relocation rates and incentives vary, but it can be a little as $5 a day. You may just have to pay for gas, and of course, food or whatever extras your heart desires.

There are a few limitations with these relocation companies. Some companies charge for additional renters/drivers, don’t allow children, a certain amount of riders, or forbid pets.

What Influences The Cost of RV Insurance?

Lets List Out All the Factors

1. The Make, Model, and Year of your RV:

Motorhomes are generally more expensive to insure than travel trailers. Unlike Travel Trailers (TT) that are towable, motorhomes are driven and therefore require liability coverage.

The largest type of RV, like a $150,000 Class A motorhome, typically costs more for RV insurance than the smaller Class C motorhome and Class B camper van.

Still, if you have an older RV that you’ve taken care of over the years, you might pay less than someone with a newer model.

2. The Type of Policy that you are Taking Out

Cost is directly affected by the type of coverage you obtain. What kind of insurance do you need for an RV? The most popular insurance policies for RVs are:

Liability Coverage

Uninsured and Underinsured Motorists

Collision

Comprehensive

Valuables Coverage

Pet Injury

Roadside assistance

So, if you were also wondering What Does RV Insurance Cover? these are seven types of policies that are the most common.

Get a Quote in just 60 seconds here with Roamly. Save up to 25%*

3. Where You Live Matters

For starters, insurance requirements are regulated on a state level.

Secondly, If you live in an area with higher rates of crime and theft, your insurance cost will likely be higher.

Thirdly, areas with mountainous terrain or severe weather conditions, such as thunderstorms and blizzards, typically have more dangerous road conditions.

The differences can be pretty drastic, for example, in Michigan RV owners can pay up to $4,490 a year for a Class A RV, but RV owners in North Carolina pay an average of $860 per year.

4. Your Driving Record

You’ll probably get a better rate than someone who has been in a few fender benders. Similar to auto insurance, other cost factors include the driver’s age, gender, and marital status.

5. Your Experience Driving Your Motorhome:

The more experience you have as an RV driver, the less risky you are to insure.

RVs are large and hard to maneuver, insurance companies want to know you can handle your RV safely before they insure you.

6. How Often You Use Your RV

Full-timers often pay more for their insurance policy since their RV is both a vehicle and a full-time home.

7. Where You Store Your RV When It’s Not In Use

Owners who keep their Rig parked in a driveway located in a tornado alley will pay more than if you parked it in a secure storage facility.

Since travel trailers are towable they’re less costly to insure. If you have an older model, you might get that low price of $125 per year if you use it sparingly. But for newer, more expensive towable RVs, you might pay over $1,000 per year.

Be Insured Folks And Be Safe

These seven factors strongly influence how much is RV insurance policies. It’s best to get insured, If you have a recreational vehicle, you are likely required by law to have insurance just like every other moving vehicle on the road.

It’s not cheap, insurance costs are one of the reasons people opt to rent an RV (insurance is still needed with a rental but companies like Outdoorsy add you to their insurance or owners add you to theirs). It’s all to make sure you are safe.

As far as the price, the more your policy covers, the more expensive it is going to be. All other conditions equal, general liability coverage of an RV will be much less costly than full coverage.

What Is The Best RV Rental for Cross Country?

Let’s start by searching for: What’s The Best RV Rental Site For Cross Country? Some of our top picks include the following:

#1 Outdoorsy

See which RV is right for your Cross Country trip on Outdoorsy click here

Outdoorsy RV rentals prices significantly vary from state to state and city to city. The different RV owners establish fees as the RVs are directly rented from them, not from a rental agency. However, the local market typically determines the prices. The national average rental rates are as follows:

$175 to $275 for a night in Class A

$100 to $200 for a night in Class B.

$150 to $200 for a night in Class C.

$50 to $125 for a night in a travel trailer.

$60 to $150 for a fifth wheel each night.

$50 to $100 for a night in a popup trailer.

Features

Coverage of up to $1 million for approved reservations

Daily round-the-clock Roadside Assistance.

Countless locations to rent campers and RVs.

5,000+ Five-Star Reviews.

The most fantastic RV rental company that comes to mind is Outdoorsy. It employs a platform that enables RV owners to rent their vehicles to anybody in the US. On the other hand, all tenants must pass background checks, giving you confidence in the person you are renting from.

You may rent a mobile home from practically anywhere, as Outdoorsy has pickup locations throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. It would be challenging to locate a place in the United States that doesn’t have a rental from this company, from Los Angeles to San Francisco to Orlando, FL.

Check out these RV Clubs! Save money & time while racking up on comfort and memorable experiences

#2 RVshare

RVshare charges around the same rate as Outdoorsy for rental RVs and campers. Its pricing is as follows:

$175 to $275 for a night in Class A.

$100 to $200 for a night in Class B.

$150 to $200 for a night in Class C.

$50 to $125 for a night in a travel trailer.

$60 to $150 each night in a fifth wheel.

$50 to $100 for a night in a popup trailer.

However, remember that these prices may change depending on where you hire the camper and if there are special events. Additionally, some RVs offer limitless mileage. Others provide free transportation up to a specific distance, like 100 miles, before increasing the rates.

Features

Up to $200,000 in RV value insurance and up to $500,000 in liability insurance.

Daily round-the-clock Roadside Assistance.

Countless locations to rent campers and RVs.

A 5% cash back loyalty program.

RVshare is yet another excellent location to rent an RV after Outdoorsy. It is a peer-to-peer rental service similar to Outdoorsy. Additionally, it leases out travel trailers, motorhomes, campervans, tent campers, and other automobiles.

It shares characteristics with Outdoorsy in that it has several rental locations spread throughout numerous nations. However, Outdoorsy is preferable to RVshare for renting a camper because they provide superior insurance coverage and better recommendations.

#3 RVezy

RVezy and Outdoorsy cost almost identical amounts. They include:

$175 to $275 for a night in Class A.

$100 to $200 for a night in Class B.

$150 to $200 for a night in Class C.

$50 to $125 for a night in a travel trailer.

$60 to $150 each night in a fifth wheel.

$50 to $100 each night in a popup trailer.

However, the prices vary depending on the RV’s type, where you hire it from, and even if there are nearby celebrations or holidays, like Labor Day.

Features

Coverage of up to $1 million for approved reservations.

Daily round-the-clock Roadside Assistance.

Various campers and RVs rent locations throughout the United States and Canada.

RVezy is our last RV rental for cross country. It was founded in 2016 by Mike McNaught and Will Thompson after realizing how much money they could make by renting out their own RVs. It offers the most exceptional customer service compared to Outdoorsy and RVshare.

RVshare vs Outdoorsy

Outdoorsy Review: Pros & Cons

Outdoorsy Rental Process

The Outdoorsy rental process is simple and similar to most car and hotel reservation sites. Go to Outdoorsy and enter your dates and location. From there you filter through the inventory.

All RV owners don’t have the same amenities so that is where you’ll probably spend your time seeping through. The same goes for add-ons, photos, and descriptions.

We find it best that you choose a few in case your 1st choice isn’t available. Click on “request booking” or “Instant Booking”.

You cannot choose “Instant Booking” for all listings.

Make sure to upload your driver’s license and fill out all the necessary documents to verify your profile.

Once your reservation is finalized you are charged the full amount of the rental. Then, outdoorsy holds the monies for 24 hours after the RV drives off.

What’s in the Outdoorsy RV Inventory?

The options at Outdoorsy are vast. You can find basic RVs to luxury motorhomes. You can choose from Pop-ups, travel trailers, Fifth Wheelers, and different RV classes. Figure out what will work best for you and your trip.

You can play around with options here.

Pricing Model

As you will see with RVshare, price points vary based on class, age, and amenities. It’s also important to note that prices are set by individual owners.

No matter where you go, prices fluctuate throughout the year. You’ll find lower prices during the off-season and higher prices in destinations like National Parks.

Outdoorsy Pros & Cons

There is no blanket cancellation policy. It is all based on rules individual owners set for their rig. Outdoorsy backup whatever process their owners choose.

Hard to find listings in rural areas.

Renters are required to pay for repairs, parts, or labor costs that are acquired on the road.

Cheaper than traditional RV rental services like El Monte

The best RV rental Customer Service

You, the renter, are responsible for any on-site repairs, parts, or labor costs.

Renter Cancellation Policy: Both owner and customers can cancel a reservation. In regards to being refunded or not depends on what tier you're under. More in the cancellation policy tiers in the owners section below.

RVshare Review: Pros & Cons

RVshare Rental Process

The beginning of the rental process for RV share is as intuitive as Outdoorsy.

Pick a location, date, and size. Then, choose from listings in your area.

You can choose between drivable and towable, and any additional filters you want.

Drivers contact RV owners via message to request a booking. You can click “instant book” if you don’t want to wait for the owner to respond to any query. Then your request will either be accepted or denied.

Inventory

RVshare has a diverse RV inventory which includes A- class, B- class, and C- class rentals. You can choose from Pop-up Campers, Travel Trailers (TT), Fifth Wheels, Toy Haulers, and more.

Pricing Model

Once you get past the initial location, dates, and size filters, listings will pop up with various prices.

Click on a listing may give you more pricing options because many owners give discounts based on the length of rental.

Those will be broken down based on daily, weekly, and monthly prices. There are also pet fees.

General Pricing for RVShare:

Pop-Up and Travel Trailers range from $50 to $200 per night

Fifth Wheelers range from $60 to 300 per night.

Class A models can range from $150 to $450 per night

Class B models can range from $100 to $350 per night

Class C models can range from $100 to $400

*All prices depend on availability and model age.

Pros & Cons

RV dealerships are allowed to list here, which means renters can have the option to test drive if they are thinking of buying.

You get 5 percent cash back on future trips

The insurance fee can range from $10 to $40

Doesn’t require yearly DMV checkups

Insurance

RVshare automatically gives you RV rental insurance. Their insurance covers any earthly element you can think of:

Hail Storm

Flood

Fallen Tree

Earthquake

You can also expect them to cover:

Vandalism

Stolen RV

Back accidents

Fire

* Unlike Outdoorsy, we are unsure which RV insurance company they partner with at the moment.

Otherwise, the type of insurance differs based on the size of the RV. Who do you pick in this RVshare vs Outdoorsybattle?

Outdoorsy: Has Coach Net Roadside Assistance which provides renters with around-the-clock technical and emergency roadside assistance.

Customer Service

Both platforms offer 24-hour customer service by phone. Outdoorsy’s customer service is top tier in comparison to RVshare.

They are a lot easier to get on the phone or get an email response when it comes to RVshare vs Outdoorsy.

What percentage does Outdoorsy take?

There is an 80/20 split. Outdoorsy takes 20 percent and you get the other 80 percent of the reservation costs.

How much do you make on Outdoorsy?

Included in that 80 percent reservation fee you can charge extras. You can charge an extra fee for add-ons you provide like kayaks and generators.

You are also allowed to charge fees if the renter travels over the miles you allow.
RVshare vs Outdoorsy For Owners

Owner Payments

Outdoorsy: The renter is charged the day they pick up your rig. Renters are charged the full amount. Outdoorsy holds the payment for 24 hours, then realized the funds in your account. Transactions may take 3 to 5 business days.

Want to List Your RV for Rent with Outdoorsy? Start Here

RVshare: Commissions are paid out to owners the 1st business day after the start of the pick-up. You may have to wait for 2 to 5 business days to see the funds in your account.

Cancellation Policy

Owners choose their cancellation policy from a few tiers for both companies.

Outdoorsy has 3 tiers ranging from Flexible to Strict:

Flexible

Moderate

Strict

RVshare has 5 tiers owners can choose from Forgiving to Most Strict:

Forgiving

Flexible

Standard

Strict

Very Strict

Most Strict

Put It In Park

Let’s Park The RVshare vs Outdoorsy Battle. Is outdoorsy or RVShare better? We like the multiple Cancellation options RVshare provides but we’ve had no problem with both.

I hate to end a battle on a draw but it really depends on what you need at the time.

In regards to pricing, both platforms are similar.

So, you should consider other benefits like increased insurance protection, roadside assistance, customer service, etc. as deciding factors.

If neither RV company in this RVshare vs Outdoorsy post fails to tickle your fancy, you can choose from these options. You can also look into non-peer-to-peer services like Cruise America.

So, you want to rent an RV for a month, If you’re thinking “Tell me the average RV rental cost per month”, that’s what we created this post to accomplish.

Here we answer a few frequently asked questions, the benefits of renting long term, and the other fees associated with renting an RV for a month.

How Much Does It Cost To Rent an RV for a Month?

The average monthly rental prices range from $1,750 to $10,000 (including tax). You have a gambit of options to choose from, whether you’re aiming to rent a towable or drivable RV.

Keep in mind, because it is a long-term rental, many RV owners will negotiate with you. The longer the rental agreement, the more room to negotiate.

Other Fees & Prices to Consider While Renting an RV For A Month

RV Rentals by Type:

You want to start thinking of the type of rig you want to rent for your trip. See the chart above with the average prices per night and multiply that by 30 days.

A 2021 Class A Luxury motorhome will cost more than a 2017 towable Travel Trailer. Figuring out which RV you want is a huge decision that will determine your overall costs.

Mileage/Price Per Mile:

Try to opt for a rental agreement with unlimited mileage.

You may come across a deal with an allotted mileage amount and have additional charges for every mile you go over. Mileage charges range from $0.25 to $1.00 a mile.

RV Campground Rates:

Campsite fees can range from $25 to $100 per night. You can find RV Park at similar rates.

To save some money, you can join an RV discount club or hit the road boondocking or dry camping (which is free).

Cleaning Fees:

Similar to Airbnb, RV owners tend to charge a cleaning fee. Just return the RV in good shape for the next renter and these fees shouldn’t be an issue (still, always discuss the cleaning fees with the owner so cleanliness expectations are clear.)

The cleaning fees range from $50 to $100.

They may also call it a “Prep Fee” to get the Rig in tip-top shape for the next renter.

RV Rental Insurance:

RV rental insurance prices vary as well, but if you rent with Outdoorsy you’ll automatically get up to 1 million dollars in insurance protection.

You should also consider Trip Insurance or Damage Protection since your renting for a month. The longer you have the RV the more opportunity for unpredictable things to happen.

Better to be insured than sorry. So, check if an insurance policy is included in the rental price to cover those unpredictable accidents or damages.

Taxes:

You will pay taxes in the state you’re renting the RV in, no matter where you live.

So, when you rent an RV online from your house in Tampa, but the RV rental is in St. Louis, you’ll pay St. Louis sales taxes.

Why Rent an RV for a Long-Term or Monthly Rental?

If you want to know how much does It cost to rent an RV for a month, you might as well know why it is beneficial to rent for a few weeks.

First and foremost, renting long long term is cheaper compared to short term rentals. You’ll save more money in the long run.

On average, the cost to rent an RV is up to $300 nightly and $400+ for a luxury RV. A longer-term rental will afford you a lower nightly rate, especially if you rent through a peer-to-peer RV rental company.

Unless the RV is your primary residence, it is always more beneficial to rent an RV vs Buying an RV. So, if you’re driving cross country you may need additional service or renting to secure temporary housing it can end up being more expensive.

Benefits of Long-Term Monthly RV Rental:

Test The Waters

Save Money With Discounted Rates

Test-Drive Different Models

No Maintenance Required

No RV Storage Prep

Where Can I Find the Best Deals for Long-term RV Rental?

You can use Outdoorsy’s RV search (or another peer-to-peer RV rental company) because Commercial RV rental dealers rarely offer long-term rental deals.

How do I find an RV rental by the month? You can search RV owners renting their rigs all over the US, contact owners directly, and talk about long-term rental periods.

Is It More Economical to Rent or Own an RV?

It is more economically beneficial to rent an RV before buying an RV; it is less risky an investment to purchase a brand new RV. Many people jump into buying an RV or Travel Trailer without knowing all it entails.

It is best to rent the type of RV you are considering buying, rent it for a month or a week. Really live in it, you’ll learn the road, poop pyramids, water filtering, and truck stop etiquette in real-time.

You want to understand what it cost to own an RV and maintain it before you consider buying one.

Overall, renting an RV for a month or a week is the best way to figure out what you want and don’t want in a Recreational Vehicle. Think of purchasing an RV as more of a progression than a one-shot deal.

The road ahead is paved with gold, at least that’s what we all thought. Here are “19 Things You Wish You Knew Before You Started RVing”

Of course, I mean *”I Knew” or better yet, “We knew” but the title is in respect to the people who ask us the question.

There is a lot of stuff one must prepare for before you hit the road. When we started we failed to do the research you are probably doing, but the good thing is we all get to benefit from what each other has learned along the way.

Let’s begin with the list of 19 things we wish we knew before we started RVing, which is what new RVers should know, and then we’ll jump into a few items you will need on your trip.

What Are Things You Wish You Knew Before You Started RVing?

1. Rent Different RVs Before Buying One

RVs are not an appreciating asset. Do hardcore research ahead of time, the less likely you will be to make a big or expensive mistake.

Imagine spending all that money on buying an RV to later find out you don’t truly enjoy it or you picked the wrong one. That mistake will cost more than renting an RV for the weekend or one week.

2 . Stay Afraid, but Do It Anyway.

This quote is from Carrie Fisher, but reused for RV living by Sarah Hubbart at The Wandering Road:

It’s okay not to know what you are doing. It’s okay to be intimidated. It’s okay to be worried, or even scared. But the best way to learn about RV life is… to live it. You will figure it out as you go.
Carrie Fisher

3. Know Your Measurements

Know how high your trailer is until it’s ingrained in your head and written somewhere in plan view. Also, know the entire length of your RV.

The fact is size matters. Your RV is longer and taller than you might think. Know the difference between your two tires on a TT or Fifth Wheeling.

Large RVs can be restrictive. Smaller RVs give travelers more options in general (for driving, highways, parking, etc.)

This is especially important for people staying in state and national parks where there can be restrictions on RVs.

4 . Campground Memberships Can Save Money

You may have heard conflicting arguments about RV clubs or Campground memberships.

The fact is: Campground Memberships are useful to people who use them. Oftentimes people don’t take full advantage of the campground perks.

Still, there are a few I hear that suck (I won’t spread bad news here). I will share a couple that I know are worth it to whoever uses them, no matter what part of the country you’re traveling: Passport America and Harvest Hosts.

5. Don’t Wait to Plan for an Emergency

When you stop at a truck stop or rest stop, jot down the address.

In case you need to call 911 for an emergency responder, your location is the most vital information the operator needs to send you assistance.

If you are camping out for a while, jot down the nearest hospital or emergency care facility.

Note: Have An Emergency Fund

6. Avoid Getting Poop On Yourself

Know Your Water Tanks.

You need to know how the plumbing works in your RV. lt may not be the RV Park, It can be your water filter.

Freshwater tanks, Blackwater tanks, and gray water tanks. You can learn more about them here.

Emptying the tanks is no big deal but someone has to do it! You need to know when to clean the freshwater tanks and how to keep them clean.

And, how to unclog black tanks from the dreaded poop pyramid. Plus, what sewer hose and support do you need to purchase.

Related: Top RV Portable Waste Tanks

7. Expect to Perform Some Maintenance

Things Will Break. People often underestimate how much maintenance needs to be done on an RV, don’t be these people.

Newbies do not budget enough to cover maintenance costs. This goes back to having an Emergency Fund.

There is plenty you’ll need to learn along the way, nothing beats experience. Simply prepare for minor issues and upkeep- we can’t foresee the big things.

Related: RV Vacuums That Keep The Pet Hair Away

8. They Require Plenty of Maintenance

Learn as much as you can about RV maintenance. You will spend some cash on paying others to fix your RV but eventually, you will learn enough to fix things on your own.

Mobile repair techs are available, warranty and insurance, but sometimes those things can be inconvenient for smaller problems.

9. Wifi and Cell Phone Reception!

We live in a tech-driven world, and you will be traveling in dead spots, woods, RV Parks, etc. RV Parks that offer decent WiFi are slim, which is a bummer if you work on the road.

You need to ensure you have the best Wifi for your RV possible. If you plan on streaming with Youtube, Netflix, Disney+, or HBO you’ll need more than RV parks provide (around 5MBPS on average).

While Netflix recommends a minimum of 20MBPS for reliable streaming.

Depending on how long you’ll be on the road, you probably miss friends and family members. So, check with your cell phone provider for the best cell service package.

Lots of people end up getting a second cell phone plan.

10. The RV Community Is Welcoming

Even if you are just renting an RV for the weekend or you travel full-time, lean on the RV community. There are Facebook groups, membership programs, IG pages, and forums full of individuals who enjoy sharing what they know.

Some RV brands have their own forums you can join to get a better feel of that RV brand or how to maintain your Rig once you get it.

Use the community to discover the best boondocking locations or how to keep your fridge cold in your RV.

11. Avoid RV Accidents

Go Slow and Create a Systems for Everything. Everything.

Who is in charge of packing up, emptying, and cleaning tanks (and when), who’s driving, etc. So when something goes wrong there is no need to panic.

Related: How Does a Trailer Sway Bar Work?

12. Homes Appreciate and RVs Do Not

You lose about 25% due to depreciation in the first 2 years of owning your RV. You can rent the RV you want to purchase before buying by using a peer-to-peer company like RVshare.

13. Plan For The Weather

The weather can make things really difficult – the wind is no joke, your RV isn’t as aerodynamic as you think. You are in moving home and you are exposed to the elements.

Track the weather and know where to seek shelter if needed- there are plenty of free and subscription-based weather apps. Temperature changes happen more dramatically in an RV.

This is why you need to know when to prepare for cold weather or get an air conditioner for your hot RV.

14. Insurance Can Get Pricey

You can request to downgrade your RV insurance and save significant costs if you store for a month or more throughout the year.

We are usually talking a few hundred dollars savings, assuming you pay bi-annual or annual premiums.

If you are renting you can join the owner’s plan or when renting with Outdoorsy you be under a $1million insurance policy automatically.

15. Bring Cash

“Cash Back” is your friend. You just never know when it will come in handy.

Plus, some parks across the country only accept cash for stays. Thus, it’s important to carry enough cash with you to cover 1-2 nights at an RV park.

Also, if you are traveling with an RV washer and Dryer then you’d have to use one in a park or on some random exit and you’ll need quarters and dollar bills.

16. Download Camping Apps

There are fantastic apps that can help you locate RV Resorts, camping locations, RV Parks, or BLM areas.

17. You Don’t Have to Go Far

A classic mistake made by newbie RVers is only looking for destinations that require thousands of miles to be covered on the freeway.

Owning an RV gives you a great sense of freedom, but you don’t have to traverse the country.

This is another reason renting an RV before buying can be beneficial.

18. Check The Date On Your Tires

When buying a new RV, it’s a good idea to check the date on your tires. A new Rig doesn’t mean your tires are.

There is usually a 4 digit number on the back of your tires to check when they were made.

Another reason measurements are important- It’s a good idea to look up the weight of your RV and match it on the tire’s load capacity PSI chart. Then you can find the proper PSI to ensure safety and a smooth ride.

19. Document Your Experience

Take pictures, jot down lessons learned and record great moments.

This is for your personal pleasure but also to teach others. At the end of the day, it’s a journey, it’s an adventure you’ll want to share.

What Do First Time RVers Need?

What Tools Are Essential?

Plan Your Route: Figure out big destinations and then fill in the blanks. Use camping and RVing apps.

Overall: Enjoy Your Experience!

If you were asking “What do I need to know about RVing?” we hope we hit a few you didn’t already know so you are better prepared for the road, RVing, and simply getting where you’re going.

Unfortunately, no matter how much we plan, we’ll probably discover things that we wish we would have known before we rented, bought, or financed an RV.

Be Safe.

So, you plan on renting an RV for the weekend? that’s awesome! A weekend getaway road trip in a rented motorhome can be top-tier relaxation time.

Here we cover average RV rental prices, how much does it cost to rent an RV for a weekend, what legitimate RV rental companies are on the market, cheap rental options, and other fees.

By the end of this post, you will be a few steps closer to renting an RV for the weekend and having a great road trip ahead of you.

Just picture you behind the wheel of an RV with the wide-open road in front of you and nothing to worry about all weekend because everything is planned.

How Much Does it Cost to Rent an RV for a Weekend?

It costs between $500 to $1,200 to rent an RV for a 3 day weekend, which all depends on the RV model you choose. For example, it generally costs more to rent a large RV (Class A) than a small one (Class C).

If you want to rent for a long weekend or four nights to be exact (Thursday to Sunday night), with the same accommodations, it’ll run you around $500 to $600 per night. Also, those numbers don’t include fuel, food, and fun cost (see other fees and cost below).

Here are towable and drivable RV rental averages:

Class A RV

$175 to $350 per night

Class B RV

$100 to $225 per night

Class C RV

$125 to $250 per night

5th Wheeler

$150 to $250 per night

Travel Trailer

$75 to $150 per night

Pop Up Camper

$75 to $100 per night

Camper Van

$100 to $200 per night

Toy Hauler

$99 to $180 per night

Truck Camper

$100 to $250 per night

Average RV Rental Prices

The average RV rental prices in Outdoorsy are between $50 and $275 a night, depending on the class of RV.

Other RV Rental Costs and Fees to Consider This Weekend

RV Campground Rates

RV Parks and campsite fees are in the $25 to $100 per night range.

To save some money on campsites you can join RV clubs or find free boondocking spots.

RV Rental Insurance

When you use a peer-to-peer RV rental service like Outdoorsy you are automatically enrolled with up to 1 million dollars in insurance protection.

Of course, you have the option to add other policies.

Whichever RV rental company you pick ask a representative or the owner specific questions about insurance.

Fuel Cost

Filling a motorhome fuel tank can be costly, it’s not like filling up an SUV. Class A motorhomes can hold up to 150 gallons, other Class A motorhomes can average 100 gallons.

You may deal with a motorhome rental company or owner who has mileage restrictions and charge an extra $.25 to $.75 per mile.

There is often an additional fee for motorhomes returned without a full tank. Gasless return will cost you the amount to filler up and the additional $20-$50.

Mileage Offered

You won’t need to worry about this in most cases, many RV rentals have unlimited mileage.

But, if you happen to stumble upon an owner or company that rent per mile, you’ll likely be charged $0.25 to $0.75 per mile you go over.

Cleaning Fees

Owners can charge a cleaning fee. Just return the RV in good shape for the next renter and these fees shouldn’t be an issue.

The cleaning fees range from $50 to $100

The inspection checklist is your friend. Return the RV in the same condition to avoid extra charges.

Weekend Rental Taxes

How much taxes you pay are mainly based on what state you are renting from, not your permanent residence.

If you live in Denver and rent an RV in Las Vegas, you’ll pay Las Vegas sales taxes.

How Do I Rent an RV for 3 Days?

Renting an RV for 3 days or a long weekend is accomplished by picking an RV rental company, preferably a peer-to-peer company that allows customers to rent RVs directly from owners.

Then searching through the RV rental company’s inventory by using the filtering system. You may want to limit yourself to B and C class RVs if you’re a first-time renter since they’re smaller and easier to maneuver than the bus-like Class A.

But, if you are traveling with more than 3 people, Class A might be the only comfortable option.

Once you see an RV or a few RVs that tickles your fancy, reach out to the owners to ask any specific questions and get all the details straight.

Ask these questions if it’s not clear:
How does the RV rental insurance Policy work?
If you have a Pet are they allowed in the RV?
How does Roadside Assistance work? Is there 24/7 roadside assistance?
Will I get charged for mileage?
What is the cancellation policy?
What are the RV rental company charges?

Finally, once all your ducks are in a row, book your RV for 3 days.
